Kinesio Tape ( K-tape) is an elastic cotton strip with an acrylic adhesive that is used for treating athletic injuries and a variety of physical disorders. It was invented during the 1970s by Dr. Kenzo Kase.
The tape is used in therapy and aims to relax overused muscles and in rehabilitation to facilitate underused muscles.
The elastic properties can also be utilized in a mechanical fashion to limit or encourage a specific motion at a joint.
It has been seen used at Olympic training and competitive levels by many athletes to optimise performance and aid rehabilitation.
At BPC Healthcare, the physiotherapists have all completed a K-taping course, and are currently using the best up to date techniques for many of our clients, ranging from Achilles tendinopathy’s to Whiplash musculoskeletal injuries.
